Vs. 20-year average: +136 (about 7 days ahead of normal)

Vs. last year:  2400 (exactly the same!)

Rainfall Update-

Since planting: 23.86”

Vs. 20-year average: +2.26”

Vs. last year: 19.87” (+3.99” vs last year)

Summer Agronomy Meeting Weather Update-

Below is the sheet from our meeting.  You can see we were behind in rainfall compared to last year through Aug. 22.  Of course, the big rain came the weekend of the 27^th.  That rainfall is reflected in the total down farther.

GDU’s – we had a warmer June than July.  That was due to all the 90 degree days in June and a cooler than normal July.

Did the 9”+ of rainfall help? Hurt? Matter? – Yes, it helped the beans (that were still green).  They will fill pods with more protein and thus more yield.  It will help the corn finish by providing a refresh of the soil solution to get the last few nutrients to the plant.  We saw firing, that should stop now.  The saturated conditions will not help the lodged beans though, continued rains will continue to beat them down and make harvest tougher.  Saturated conditions now in corn can lead to a quick uptick in diseases – tar spot, crown rot, or possibly ear molds (also covered at the end of this weeks update).
